I wrote last time about the importance of HDL cholesterol and the results of our human study demonstrating that Lester’s Oil raised levels of this very important substance, and its associated benefits.
Our human study was conducted in two phases, phase one included HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and C-Reactive Protein, phase two measured other factors that I will refer to in future articles. Today I will run through the triglyceride level results and their importance to your health.
Triglycerides are the most common type of fat in your body. When fat gets stored around your belly (for instance) we are talking about triglycerides.
There is some debate about the effects of high triglyceride levels in isolation, but when combined with other risk factors such as high blood pressure, low levels of HDL or high levels of LDL (the bad cholesterol) many experts believe it multiplies the risk of heart disease.
In our human study, triglycerides were reduced after just four weeks of taking Lester’s Oil at the standard dose of two capsules per day. This was a double blind randomised placebo controlled study with a crossover. The crossover bit is important, this means that the study participants were given either Lester’s Oil or a placebo (fake inactive pill) for four weeks each, with a washout period of an additional four weeks between the two. They didn’t know (and nor did the researchers) whether they were given the placebo or Lester’s Oil…in fact no one knew until the study was completed and written up, that’s how bias was eliminated.
So, we were delighted to see positive results in just four weeks. During my conversations with Dr. Laurence Eyres, we thought we might be waiting for up to 3 months to see results. I think a major part of the reason for this fast result is the high quality of the ingredients we use; the formula includes over 1 g of Omega-3 per day as well as other antioxidants which are very likely an important factor as well. We don’t choose the cheapest ingredients as many retail brands tend to, we specifically investigate our suppliers and Laurence has travelled the world to examine their facilities and standards. The oil we use is of extremely high quality and has around twice the Omega-3 of standard oil.
There are other things you should consider for lowering your triglyceride levels and your risk of heart disease, especially if you have any known risk factors.
1. Exercise and weight loss, yes, it gets hammered, you are probably bored of hearing it… but doing exercise and losing some pounds can have a major impact
2. Eating less Carbs (including alcohol) will have an effect of both weight loss and triglyceride levels
3. Certain supplements vitamin B3 aka Niacin in high doses is effective but may have side effects
4. Oily fish eating oil fish will provide extra Omega-3 fatty acids, but many people can’t get enough from this source so supplementation is recommended, which is why we developed Lester’s Oil.
If you don’t already use Lester’s Oil, then this is another research-backed reason to give it a try. Very few companies conduct research, as it is extremely expensive, but we want Lester’s Oil to be the best supplement on the market. There is a reason the pharmacist who manufactures the product for us (who has a choice of 1500 products he made for the industry) chooses to take Lester’s Oil.
